Day 1

Meeting with the Moken people

Board a speedboat from Kuraburi Port for a crossing of approximately one hour to Surin Islands National Park.

Your adventure begins with a snorkeling session off both islands, immediately immersing you in the region's captivating underwater life. Your journey will then take you to the island inhabited by the Moken, a people of maritime nomads from Southeast Asia who found refuge on the Surin Islands after the 2004 tsunami. Deeply rooted in animism, they depended primarily on fishing and natural resources to survive. Aboard their boats called kabongs, the Mokens sailed the Andaman Sea most of the year. During the monsoon, families erected temporary villages on beaches as needed. Since the tsunami, the Moken village of Surin has become permanent, marking a shift towards a semi-nomadic or sedentary lifestyle.Explore this fascinating story with our French-speaking guide, discover their unique way of life and meet endearing children.

After a morning full of discoveries, treat yourself to a lunch break and enjoy free time to explore the surrounding area, swim in the crystal clear waters or resume snorkeling to admire the coral reefs. Settle in for the night and enjoy the calm and serenity of the place as the sun sets. (Lunch + dinner in the local restaurant).

Day 2

Seabed exploration

Early risers will be able to enjoy the colors of the sunrise over the sea from the still deserted beach. After which you will leave aboard a traditional local boat and snorkel to discover the marine biodiversity of these preserved waters. The 100 meters separating the two islands are home to exceptional coral reefs, making this area one of the best snorkeling spots in Thailand. Free afternoon and return at the end of the day to the port of Kuraburi then to your hotel on Khao Lak. (Breakfast + lunch in the local restaurant).

What activities are there on the island?

The flagship activity is snorkeling, this archipelago home to the largest and most fertile coral reef in Thailand, is considered one of the most beautiful diving sites in the world. You can stroll in the park or simply relax in the shade of the vegetation. It is also possible to visit the village Moken on the first island known for its dwellings on stilts.

On which island in the archipelago do we sleep?

The archipelago has 5 islands, two of which are inhabited, you spend the night on the second island called Koh Surin Nuea. While the Moken community lives on the first island Koh Surin Tai.
